Happy Farm Animal Week 2022 was the first series of events in Vietnam dedicated to raising awareness and fostering policy discussions on farm animal welfare. The program took place from October 2–4, 2022, in Ha Noi and served as a lead-up to Asia Farm Animal Day (October 10).
• October 2 – Consumer Event
The “Play & Learn at Happy Farm” event welcomed 370 visitors, including families and young people.
-Pre-event survey (100 respondents): Only 38% had heard of animal welfare, but 85% cared about how animals were raised.
-Post-event survey: High satisfaction, with the majority willing to pay over 30% more for welfare-friendly products.
• October 3 – Policy Roundtable
A roundtable discussion on “Policy Improvement for Farm Animal Welfare in Vietnam” engaged 18 participants from NGOs, government agencies, and farmer groups.
Key insights from the discussion were later featured in Livestock Farmer Magazine and Mekong Asian.
• October 4 – Online Q&A Session
The online session, “Raising Laying Hens in Humane Farming,” was shared across 50+ farming groups.
-The live stream reached 145 viewers
-Formed a new group of farmers interested in cage-free poultry systems
-Provided technical guidance on humane hen management
The series was co-organized with the Asia for Animals Coalition, who moderated the roundtable. Additional support came from the Vietnam Animal Welfare Association (VAWA), Shrimp Welfare Project, and Humane Society International, who reviewed pig-related welfare content.
In total, Happy Farm Animal Week 2022 reached 140,000 people through online campaigns and engaged over 400 attendees across in-person and virtual activities. Through strong collaboration and diverse programming, the series successfully delivered meaningful messages and advanced conversations about farm animal welfare in Vietnam.
