HealthyFarm participated in the “Cage-free Commitment: Opportunities and Challenges” workshop organized by the Vietnam Farm Association (VFAEA) on August 14, 2024. The event focused on advancing animal welfare within Vietnam’s livestock sector, with particular attention to cage-free egg production.
• Welfare Foundations & Policy Directions
VFAEA presented the foundations of animal welfare and outlined its next steps, including developing technical standards for livestock and implementing nationwide consumer awareness campaigns.
• Certified Humane Technical Standards
Experts provided an in-depth overview of the Certified Humane standards for laying hens, covering key areas such as feed and water systems, environmental conditions, flock management, and healthcare.
• Research Insights from VNUA
Findings from Vietnam Agricultural University (VNUA) demonstrated that lower stocking densities and semi-free-range housing systems lead to improved welfare and higher profitability—reinforcing the viability of cage-free production models in Vietnam.
• Market Opportunities & Supplier Requirements
Speakers emphasized that successfully navigating cage-free challenges positions producers for market leadership and unlocks export opportunities, including access to EU markets.
Industry leaders, such as C.P., noted that humane farming for laying hens presents unique challenges compared to other livestock. The workshop also outlined key requirements for suppliers working with corporates, including humane certification and food safety documentation.
Launch of the Cage-free Livestock Partnership in Vietnam
A major milestone of the workshop was the official launch of the “Cage-free Livestock Partnership in Vietnam” group. HealthyFarm proudly joined this core partnership alongside corporates, government representatives, and NGOs—reinforcing our leadership in advancing humane farming systems across the country.
