When chicken farmer Mr. Diep wanted to shift from meat to humane egg production, he had the vision but lacked market access and technical knowledge.

How One Farmer's Vision Became Vietnam's Humane Egg Success Story
Mr. Diep had a vision: transform his small chicken-for-meat operation in Quang Nam province into a thriving free-range egg farm. He understood that consumers increasingly wanted ethically sourced eggs, and he believed humane farming offered more stable revenue than volatile meat markets.
But vision alone wasn't enough. He lacked market access, technical knowledge about egg production, and the business systems needed to serve corporate customers. Without support, his dream would remain just that—a dream.
The Challenge When HealthyFarm first encountered Mr. Diep in June 2022, he represented thousands of Vietnamese farmers caught between traditional methods and market evolution. He operated 1,000 free-range chickens primarily for meat sales to local restaurants and organic food stores, with eggs as a minor side business.
The humane egg market was growing rapidly across Vietnam's northern and southern regions, but Central Vietnam lagged behind. Farmers like Mr. Diep had the production capability and ethical commitment, but lacked the connections, certifications, and business infrastructure needed to access premium markets.
"Initially, I was very hesitant because I didn't understand the HealthyFarm project well and had no intention of expanding the farm," Mr. Diep recalls. "More importantly, I was worried about paperwork such as VAT invoices and egg quality tests since I think their costs are too high and unnecessary for my then business."
Why HealthyFarm Was Positioned to Support This Transformation Since launching, HealthyFarm had been building the complete infrastructure that makes humane farming economically viable: market connections to premium customers, technical training for production optimization, business development support for compliance requirements, and ongoing consultation for sustainable growth.
Building Complete Support Systems Education and Vision Alignment: Over nearly a year of meetings and discussions, we introduced concepts of poultry farming, humane eggs, and animal welfare. Our research demonstrated thriving market demand from both corporations and consumers, helping Mr. Diep understand the commercial opportunity.
Compliance and Documentation: We provided financial support for egg quality testing and guided him through complex paperwork processes including VAT invoices, business licenses, and food hygiene/safety certificates—bureaucratic requirements that prevented many farmers from accessing corporate customers.
Market Connections: Through our extensive network, we connected Mr. Diep with potential buyers including international restaurants, hotels, and resort chains in Da Nang and Hoi An. These relationships provided stable customer base essential for sustainable growth.
Technical Training: We organized comprehensive training sessions covering humane production methods, hen welfare optimization, facility management, and business operations—knowledge essential for both animal welfare and economic success.
What We Discovered The transformation exceeded expectations, demonstrating that Vietnamese farmers were ready for humane agriculture when provided with appropriate support systems:
Economic Transformation: Sales increased 29x in six months, from 1,000 to 29,000 eggs monthly; farm expanded from 1,000 to 4,000 chickens producing 96,000 eggs monthly; 2023 delivery of 255,000+ eggs to premium establishments including Hyatt Regency, Pizza 4P's, and Four Seasons Hotels.
Business Development: successful navigation of corporate client requirements; development of "Diep Oanh's Eggs" brand identity; investment in facility upgrades and delivery systems; achievement of 80% production rate demonstrating operational efficiency.
Sustainable Growth: currently building Central Vietnam's first facility targeting Certified Humane certification; exploring innovative approaches including black soldier fly feed systems; expanding customer base beyond initial local market.
Beyond Individual Success What makes Mr. Diep's story particularly significant is how individual farmer success creates regional market development. His achievement demonstrates that Central Vietnamese farmers can compete in humane egg markets, encouraging other producers and validating the business case for ethical farming.
"I have always wanted to focus on natural, humane products for long-term development rather than slaughtering animals before, but I was nervous to take risks," Mr. Diep reflects. "When talking and working with HealthyFarm, I know there is a substantial market for humane eggs."
What This Represents Mr. Diep's transformation demonstrates that Vietnamese farmers were ready for humane agriculture—they just needed comprehensive support systems that addressed market access, technical knowledge, and business development simultaneously.
